Thanks for your review. I am wondering when to jump in to the SACD playground. I thought when the SCD 777 ES came out, which played DVD's as well it was time to get in. Then the Sony 9000 ES was imminent, at about half the price. I can't stand waiting much longer. What was it that made you select the 9000 ES over the SCD 777 ES? My "Christmas shopper" is standing by for instructions.
Thank you.

I must point out that SCD 777 ES does not play DVDs at all. It is only a SACD and CD player - no video, no DVD-Audio. I have one which I bought before the 9000 appeared. My audio set-up (2 channel valve amp) is separate from video (5.1 with 5 channel Technics amp), so my choice would be easy if price was no consideration. I presume the 777 should be "more" hi-end, than a DVD/SACD player. I use it only as a transport for normal CDs.
I thought they BOTH did DVD. I was confused because the "new 9000" was listing at $1500, ($1000 less than the 777).Well, heck, I have a perfectly good Sony DVP 7700 for DVD's and CD's. I wish I new how different the 9000 ES and the 777 sounded (I have not seen any comparisons yet anywhere).

to the 7700. In comparison, the 7700 sounds thin, grainy and unrefined.
First and foremost I wanted a very good (possibly the best) DVD player I could afford. SACD is secondary, but it actually is a great positive surprise to me that it sounds so good. I now hope that the format succeeds.Gary
