When you switch to DVD "WideScreen" you get ripped off for a picture anyway. WideScreen is a garbage and it sucks.
Just be aware if you are in North America that in 2007 an NTSC standard is to be abandoned. ABANDONED !!!! That means a new TV VCR DVD Camcorder, PlayStation. Everything!!! All TV station MUST broadcast in HD widescreen digital format in 2007. All discs and tapes MUST be in same format. You will not find even a single DVD dics for NTSC anymore. What you collect till then will be for your entire life unless you buy it all new. So do not buy anything before 2007 anymore. Now we are going to see a big deals on all kind of video equipment. I bet in 2005 a 60" RPTV will be about $99.
Good luck to you.

Tech, it's possible that you have not seen proper wide screen, or that maybe your DVD player doesn't do it right. As Americans, we rely too much on tv for just about anything, soo much so that when wide screen shows up, we thumb our noses at it. Keep in mind that wide screen is the director's vision, and not what fits all too well on tv format.Keep and open mind!

you really shouldn't scare people like that! when analog signal is no longer transmitted your pre-hd tv's will still operate. everyone will have to buy a digital to analog converter box somewhere between 50 to 200 dollars. as far as dvd's go im guessing they will still operate as well, a dvd today will be hd if the tv is, and analog if not. Where did you get this information anyway? yes prices will drop and hd tv will become common but, analog will not be abandoned.
I agree. Do you really think the big boys at Sony would abandon a sector of the market? I mean, gee, they still make VCR's, right???
