Can someone please offer some advise regarding the best value in a complete home theatre system. I would like to purchase one for my son, who will be using it to watch DVDs as well as for his Playstation 2. I would like not to spend more than $400. Any suggestions.

Check out hifi.com for Cambridge Sound Works equipment. Or if you have a Sams membership, they have a Kenwood 80W system for 300. I also think Sony has a small system not too much over your range. There are other decent quality inexpensive systems. Not as good as the stuff you pay 1-2K for, but not junk either. Not that that you can't find junk out there. You'll need to use some judgment.
Thanks for the feedback.
check out sony home theater in a box. i bought one in june for $400 and i enjoyed it (well, for 2 months and then i upgraded.) but it is a good start. the sound for the money was really great. check out model # HTD-DW820. it could probably be found for around that and you will probably be quite satisfied. it is a very flexible good sounding piece for the money!!
If you had speakers you could probably get an AV reciever for 2-3 hundred, but for everything, I doubt if you could stay under$400.Check Costco, the cheapest I've found, but you get what you pay for.
No complete home theater system can be had for $400. Maybe a Bose Wave Radio? No, I'm only kidding; do not go buy this.-- Greg
Circuit city has some Sony and Kenwood systems for under $400. They may not be the best but they are there. American Appliance also has some.
