The standard issues aside (is it hooked up correctly?, are the connections clean & tight). You may wish to upgrade the cables, if you are using the stuff that came in the box along with the DVD player. It is poor at best and is making both the sound & picture less than it can be. You don't have to go crazy as a number of companies make inexpensive cables, but it will cost you at least $100 to upgrade both audio & video connections.
