In Reply to: video component cables- ANY differece with brands??? posted by frank on December 03, 2000 at 20:08:59:
Goto www.bettercables.com for video cables. They're cheaper and provide just as good if not better (esp. compared to MONSTER, definately better) picture quality. For audio, I would go else where.

Just recommending a brand without comparisons doesn't really help. Any cable is fine until compared to another better or worse? Someone said go to Target and get theirs for a few bucks. But how would they compare to the Nordost Optix reviewed at Soundstage? After spending several thousand dollars on video projection equipment, a few hundred more on cables is not a big deal, right? Now if there is absolutely no difference , I would agree.Monster would seem to leave much to be desired. I buddy bought a monster s-video and the huge chunk of solder on one end was intermitently shorting two of the leads. Nice piece of work...for $50.

Since you are interested in comparisons, goto the SEARCH of this page type in the cable of interest and make sure you do the search under the CABLE ASYLUM. Furthermore, to read more about cables and comparisons, goto www.audioreview.com choose "more" and then click on cables and do your search. If you have the budget and your into tweaking that will improve the quality of your video, goto www.psaudio.com to checkout the powerplants. You can even do SEARCH to read about P300, P600, P1200.
PS I would never buy a cable from Target, I've spent way too much money on my equipment to degrade the signal traveling from one component to another.
Note: I may need someone to comment or verify, but if your looking for a no compromise cable, silver would be the way to go such as Audioquest YIQ-4 (expensive), which has lower impedence than copper and using 32-36 AWG to reduce the skin effect of the very high frequencies that will travel along the cable. But we also most be practical here. He's running cable from a DVD player to a TV, not a CRT. He probably won't see differance between an S-video vs a component cable, even if he has a 36" tube TV.
Yeah, I was asking for myself as well. I agree 100% about buying a cable from Target. Still, with one person saying they couldn't tell any difference between a cheap cable and expensive cable, well, I just don't know much about VIDEO cables. Audio cables on the other hand, well, I've had very positive experiences. The assumption is that this would translate to video as well.I have searched and can't find anything in the way of component cables. Just not much on them...I assume they're just too new. Most use S-video which is perfect for non-hd.
Hope I didn't sound pushy, I've been spending some time at AR (ugh!).
