In Reply to: Sony Playstation 2 for DVDs? posted by Steve L. on December 09, 2000 at 15:39:06:
My best friend has one and the picture quality is comparable to my Sony DVD player and his Panasonic.Sound was a whole other issue though. I think it will only accept a fiber digital cable (which is what he used) and it seemed very very bright vs. his DVD player. Also, he doesn't have a remote and using the controller isn't very easy.
But, for games it is all that it's been hyped to be. Old games load very fast and the sound is much better (it doesn't pop or click). New games are mixed bag, some look fantastic, others, on the other hand, look just like PS1.

Follow Ups:
I was always skeptical that the PS2 would be the above average player it was touted to be (maybe I just didn't want it to be good since I spent a good amount on a Pioneer DV-05). I was also suprised to hear from the replies thus far that it performed well enough, but now I hear about the audio being "high" and it seems my skepticism was correct after all......
