I am looking for a progressive scan player with either SACD or DVD-A and the 3 that I am looking at are JVC XV-721 (<$600), Sony 9000ES ($1100), and Onkyo S939 ($1500). The price on the JVC makes it very tempting. Does anyone have any inputs on relative features that I should consider? Any other thoughts on the JVC?
Thanks,
Byas
Follow Ups:
I have had 2 JVC dvd players, and it all my years I have never seen such poorly made machines. I am involved in a class action (my understanding is there are tons of them)against JVC due to their poorly constructed products. I would never buy another JVC product, especially a dvd player. Check audioreview on the 501 and 701 dvd players. The chorus of unhappy owners is deafening. I have the Sony and couldn't be happier with it.Good Luck
As a DVD player, it offers very good performance. As a DVD-Audio player, it performs only a ittle better than a comparably priced CD player.I prefer the sound of CDs played back using my Pre/Pros DACs rather than the internal DACs of the JVC.
Unfortunately, at the price point they're delivering this player, to expect it to blow away even a relatively moderate priced Redbook CD
player is a bit much.If you can afford the price differential, you should steer towards the Sony SACD or the Onkyo DVD-Audio player.
Hope this helps.
