What do you use for ambient light while watching Video?I heard that the surrounding light should be 10% of the light of the screen. What worked for you? I tried 2 forty watt bulbs with blue shades, but this did not help. Turning on the light in the dining room caused too much glare.
I wanted to get this set up before I have an ISO technician calibrate my TV

A smallish blacklight works.
Backlight the screen using 6500 degree Kelvin fluorescent bulb. A fixture and Sylvania bulb costs ~$20. The picture will have better contrast and be much easier on your eyes. The light intensity level is shown on the Video Essentials calibration dvd. Search at AVS forum for extensive discusions.Dave
I don't use any light, the darker the better IMO. Then again, I'm using a front projector setup and it inherently prefers no ambient light. I did put a small 25watt red bulb in the one high-hat in the ceiling. This casts a nice red glow in the room which also happens to be painted a 'burnt peanut red' (maroon-ish) on the walls. It doesn't appear to affect the picture quality. Again though, this is all via a front projector.
Happy Holidays.
