I've got a Yamaha RX-V992 receiver hooked up to a Toshiba VCR and Toshiba DVD player. Speakers are 5 NHT Super Ones and a Boston Acoustics subwoofer (forgot the model number). All of a sudden when I play action-oriented films where loud special effects occur, the receiver shuts off. The only way to prevent shutdown is to lower the volume. This occurs with tapes and DVDs. Is this a protection circuit within the receiver turning the receiver off or something else? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

This happened to me a while back and the cause of the problem was a loose speaker wire connection. Redo all of your speaker wire connections at both the reciever and the speakers. If you are using unterminated stranded speaker wire then make absolutely sure that there are no strands touching a nearby connector. It may be as simple as a binding post becoming a little loose. I have a RX-V2095.
