Check out J&R Music world they have a world-wide VCR, kind of expensive, but converts PAL and SECAM to NTSC, etc. SAMSUNG SV5000W, if you already own a PAL VCR but have a NTSC TV J&R also sells a PAL to NTSC converter. I don't think either of these devices are considered videophile but it's a start. I know they make processional conversion devices I just haven't come across them yet.If you are looking for region free DVD then a computer DVD-ROM drive with the right software will make your computer DVD-ROM region free and also perform PAL to NTSC conversion.

Man are these prices sky-high ??????? Doesnt anybody know where i can buy one for say around $100 but does the same thing as the Emerson 1585 or equivalent model ?
Thanks David. Having already outlayed for my vcr and tv i would rather go for the purchase of that device - of course all depending on the price. I will check out there site. Thanks again
Where do you live? I ask this question because here in Australia many TVs for sale (even the cheapest Sonys) can handle either PAL or NTSC. In recent years videorecorders which can handle NTSC as well as PAL have become available. The above is not a direct answer to your question but might give you a lead to follow.

Use to live in South Africa and on contract in the USA, hence the PAL to NTSC. My vcr is multi-system in that it plays both signals however my tv only accepts NTSC. I was initially hoping that my vcr had enough 'oomph' to be able to convert the PAL to ntsc, but alas.Whats really sad is that i spoke to a couple of 'electronic' stores over here and they have no clue what PAL is.
