Hello,I am trying to add a home theatre to an existing two channel system. I have a dedicated room and am still very interested in maintaining top notch two channel sound.
I currently run:
Monarchy DT40A
Adcom GDA 700
Sonic Frontiers SFL1 Sig.
Classe 25
B&W N802I think the best sonic option for now would be to run a processor through a tape loop on the SFL1. Locally both the AVM2 and ref 30 are available on order but cannot hear them in advance. Has anyone done any comparison shopping?
I am also considering running a B&K 307 receiver instead to save money on amplification but I think there may be real problems in balancing out the channels. Does anyone else have experience running a receiver through a two channel system. For speakers I will probably go with N804's in the rear and NHTM-1 in the front.
I am concerned about the processors ability to do a true bypass on two channel so I am keeping my SFL1. Does anyone else use a HT processor for two channel stereo?
It is also worrisome that no units do 24/192. Will this not require another processor for DVD Audio?
The AVM2 uses Burr Brown PCM 1728 Dac's. Are these inferior to PCM 1704's?
I am sorry for the length of this query as well as it's scattered nature. Perhaps I should ask allot of smaller questions but as you can tell the issue is not straight forward.
Thank You in advance.
Michael Segal
BTW I am thinking a Sony DVP 9000es would provide top notch sonic and visual pleasure.

Ref30 is so versatile it lets you do either way; direct or process.
I was in your boat two weeks ago and decided to go with B&K since it has all the new surround formats plus all analog by-passed inputs for even an DVD-A or SACD besides it sounds awesome in both two channel playback and movies.
> > plus all analog by-passed inputs for even an DVD-A or SACD besides it sounds awesome in both two channel playback and movies. < <I second the motion. Analog stereo bypass works great, and the DAC's in the B&K also sound great in stereo mode from a digital input. I'm playing around with four channel surround right now, but the jury's still out.
See Ya. Dave

Not sure your room is equiped with 7.1 surround speakers or not if it has, please try Toy Story2 or Gladiators in DTS Surround EX mode. It's simply awesome. BTW, much of my B&K purchase decision was much based on John Kotches's credit. My special thank you note to him.
I didn't audition the Anthem AVM2 but I bought the B&K Ref 30 3 months ago. The sound is great for HT and stereo and it does have the capabilities to be upgraded as well as the analog inputs. Setup is a breeze and it has all the inputs you'll need for awhile. I am getting some flickering though, between the Ref 30 and the S-video input of the TV. It doesn't happen when I go straight from the DVD player to the TV using component. I haven't tried going straight from the DSS or VCR to the TV yet to rule out the Ref 30.
If your TV set allows all the inputs (S-video, Component and Composite) I'd bypass the Ref30 all together in which I do in my case. Nothing beats pure 'direct', IMO.
I use the B&K for S-video switching between the satellite and VCR. I go direct using the component input from the DVD player. I can't go composite and S-video, the TV will only recognize the S-video as long as there is a S-video input. Thanks
