All current dvd players will work. You will need a new surround processor or an add on devices suchs as like from smart devices that will give you the extra channels. Only few processors on the market have enough channels and those can be upgraded with a software change. But if you are like most and only have 5.1 channels you will need some new hardware. Either the smart devices or a new surround processor. Parasound also make an add on decoder. Of course you will need 2 more channels of amplification and another pair of surround speakers.

Karl is right. You dont need a new dvd player. Its the same dvds but with extra information. A lot of the new AV receivers coming out have support either for Dolby EX (THX) or DTS (NEO). In fact all it is is backward compatbility with 5.1 surround PLUS an extra pair of rears that mimic the front center speakers. If you dont want to splash out something that has the THX emblem (like me) look for 6.1 or 7.1 channel AV. The Denon AV3801 has this capability as well as support for the new DTS NEO. If you are in the market for one then also make sure it has at 24/96 builtin DACS or 24/192 DACS (for dvd-audio / sacd),.Hope this helps
