You can certainly "project" the TV picture on some screen, but you will never get enough brightness to make it worth your time and effort. Projector CRT's are much brighter than your typical TV screen is, that's how you get a reasonable picture. Even then the CRT projector needs to be viewed in a completely dark room, or it loses its picture FAST.All in all, certain things shoud be done right or not done at all.
Yes, you can. You need a special reflective display to project to. You need big lens to focus the picture. All of this is found on regular slide projectors and can be used for this purpose.
The modification required on TV set are very simple. You need to reverse wires for vertical and horizontal deflection. Not to switch them among themself but to reverse vires independantly for vertical and horizontal. Four wires in total is here. This will flip picture upside down and also from left to right.
If you do not do this and just flip over a TV, picture will look like in mirror and you can not read from it.
Now, you place this big lens infront the tube and move it of the tube untill you get the picture on the screen. Make some fixture to hold all this in place and you are done.
Sounds simple, but actually very dificult to achieve.
This entire set (with circuitry to flip the picture, so you do not open you TV) can be bought. And works good. But I don't know where to buy it.
I know of one guy who's made his own projector and it would cost you less to buy a good used unit then to make your own. All said and done, it cost him in the neighborhood of $2000. It's a pretty tough process.
