The biggest mistake I made in my hometheater was using inferior rear channel speaker. On the advice of a dealer many year ago I hung on to this assumption. Granted you may not need the quality that you have on the front channel for bass extention, but you will need the same degree of quality. If you want your surround system to "flow" from channel to channel, then buy better surrounds. Otherwise, when you have rear effects the lesser quality speaker will drawn attention to themselves and thereby ruin the effect of "being there." Audition both speakers and see which one has a better balance with the mains. Are the tweeters the same? If both have the same tweeter as the mains you can likely do fine with the studio 20.
I was in the same situation a few months ago, I decided to go with the Ref 40s for the rear channels. They look and sound great hanging on my wall. I have them set to large and am amazed the amount of bass they can put out sometimes during movie soundtracks.
How did you attach ref 40s to the wall. This is one heavy speaker.
