The law says a manufacture must supply replacment parts seven years after the product is discontinued. Yahamah is still in business so I would call or write them and ask what's up. It's possible your TV shop just can't or doesn't want to do the service. If the part is truly not available I would think Yamaha owes you a new TV at some pro-rated price. Any attornies care to comment?

Oops, make that "bought new in 1987". Sorry, and thanks for the suggestion. I have contacted Yamaha thru their on-line service and they told me what the shop did, that the part was not available. I found one on-line source for salvage parts, but they only seem to deal in antiques, 1960s and earlier.
