ok, i have had it with this piece of garbage bose set-up that i
have right now. i plan on selling my whole deal and starting fresh
(kind of, ill keep my tv, wires and tv stand). so here is the
question. i need to buy a receiver, 6 speakers and a multi disc dvd player
while keeping it under $2500. now for the tricky part, i would say
that my preferences are 60% music and 40% ht. i also have a
weird room set-up, 17' long 14' wide 8'high with a giant opening
in the middle of the room for a foyer. the room is divided down
the middle with half for living space (home theater) and the other
half for dining. i have been considering receievers like nakamichi
av-10 or one of the nad models because of reviews that i have
seen regarding their strong 2 channel music performance. i
understand that i need to audition, i just would be interested to
hear what you fine folks recommend auditioning and what
components sound good together. the only other limitation i have
is that i dont have room for monster floor standers, i could
probably fit ones that are around 10" wide but any more than
that would get hairy. thanks advance for your advice, i truly
elieve that the information on this forum helps many people from
making costly mistakes.

I'll chime in with my suggestion:Onkyo 575X ($450)
5 NHT Super Ones ($650)
NHT Sub One ($600)
4 decent stands ($150)
entry level interconnects from a reputable manufacturer, and OFC 12 ga. speaker wire ($150)so that leaves $500 for a DVD changer (sorry, I don't recommend changers and therefore have no suggestions)
This system is bargain priced and has excellent sound for both music and movies. Good luck!
My suggestion:HT Receiver: Rotel 965-$1000 or Onkyo 575x $450
The Rotel is going to offer your better overall sound, but at a higher cost. I use the Onkyo for my HT setup and am very happy with the HT performance. However, I do not use it for audio, you should listen to it and see if it meets your musical needs. If so you have more $$ to spend on new cables, interconnects, stands, etc.
Pioneer DVD 333 (okay it is only a one disk, but a great value) $225
B&W 602s2 fronts-$450
B&W CC6 conter-$350
B&W 302 rear-$250 (or less)
B&W ASW300-$350
B&W Front Stands $90I also like the Analysis Plus Oval 12 speaker cable.
Good luck.
Jasonz,
Two options spring to mind:1. Outlaw 1050 AV Receiver-$600.00
Atlantic Technology T70 system- $1000.00
Pioneer DV-C503- $350.00
Cables-$200.00
Speaker stands-$200.002. Used Pioneer Elite VSX-07TX Receiver- usually $600.00
Kef Cresta Center Channel/2 pairs of Cresta 3 floor standers
and 2 pair of Cresta 2 for surrounds- now $900.00 at
Audio Advisor
Entry level Sony DVD multi player- $400.00
Sound Dynamics RTS-800 Sub-$250.00
Cables/Stands-$400.00The first system is probably better for movies than music, but the T70 system has gotten several good reviews and is more compact than option 2.
For option #2, no I do not work for Audio Advisor, but just got the new catalogue and there are some good deals. The Kef's do music very well.
Good luck, Michael
