I found that I needed to UNplug the optical out cable from my Pioneer DV-05 player in order to get analog sound when recording a DVD to SVHS tape. Why can't the unit have *both* analog & digital connections plugged in, and then let me choose between them ? I checked the menus for both the DV-05, and the receiver (Pioneer VSX-24TX). I took the digital settings on both, and turned them OFF, yet still no sound. I'll be writting/calling Pioneer, but in the mean time wanted to run this buy you folks for any input......Thanks in advance.
Follow Ups:
I have both Sony DVD player and receiver. In the receiver manual, it specifically mentioned that you can't record digital signal with analog means since they are on a different system bus, so I hooked up both the digital and analog outputs of the DVD players (both audio/video) to the receivers with no problem.
That is exactly how mine is hooked up except for the video portion. Since I am using a video enhancer to defeat the macrovision, I have the analog audio outs from the DVD player connected to the receivers DVD in. The digital optic cable is also connected from the DVD out to the receivers optical in. Why I can't have both connected at the same time is what bothers me.....
please don't take this the wrong way as in pioneer is bad sort of way
but from what I have read on different digital pieces including cd
players it's a cost cutting measure ,they could do both but it would
raise the price or cut into the profit margin
I'm waiting on a reply from Pioneer, but if what you say is true, I'm pretty p-oed. This unit wasn't cheap and while it provides a great picture you would think for the money it could handle both connections. Thanks for your input.
I have digital and analog connections between my Sony DVD and pre/pro at all time, and sometimes also record directly from the second set of analog/composite video outs of the DVD to a VHS VCR. I use one S-video connection and one additional composite DVD out. No problems. I've done this with two different DVD players (both Sony).
Tommart, when you say "I use one S-video connection and one additional composite DVD out.", you mean two don't you ? The Svideo for the video portion and two analogs for the audio left & right, right ?
I was talking about the video side. I have one s-video cable and one composite cable going to my Rotel pre/pro. I have one additional composite video cable going to my VCR.
On the audio side, I have one coax digital and one pair of analog cables going from my DVD to my Rotel pre/pro (to different AUX channels). I have another pair of analog interconnects going from my DVD to my VCR.
They are all plugged in at the same time.
My problem (I think) revolves around the audio connections *only*. However, here is how I currently have it all connected: DVD digital out to receivers digital in. DVD svideo out to Macbuster unit svideo in. Macbuster svideo out to receivers DVD svideo in. DVD audio analog outs to receivers DVD audio analog ins. And finally, the VCR has its analog outs to and from the receivers VCR analog ins/outs.
Assuming that all the above is correct, my problem is that in order to get audio on my SVHS tape from the DVD, I have to unplug the digital (optical) cable from the back of the DVD player(it is still connected to the receivers optical in). I hope this further explains the problem.
