After you put a disc in the DVD player and the options menu appears, just move the curser to language selection. You should get an options menu -- if you don't, there is a serious problem. In the options menu, pick the languages option and there is a choice for DTS once you're in this part of the menu. One day (I'm not holding my breath), all DVD players will automatically select the surround format of your choice when the disc is loaded. Let me know if this solves your problem.

Thanks Joe! You weren't technically correct, but you made me think to try something else. Pressing the Menu key on the player with NO disc in it brings up a setup menu which allows you to turn on the DTS bitstream. It works! Thank you again. This was driving me nuts.
Yeah, I tried that. Some of my discs have a menu right at the beginning to select DTS. And the player has an audio menu where you can select DTS on other discs. Have to do the same thing to get Dolby 5.1 on others. On the DTS setting I get no sound, and the receiver (on which I can find no setting to enable DTS because it is supposed to be automagic) does not acknowledge the signal. I'm not getting an UNLOCK from the optical, but there seems to be no input. I'm thinking there must be some way to enable the decoder and I cannot find it, or this receiver has a problem. Thanks anyway.
