I've narrowed my search for an a/v pre down to the McIntosh MSD-4 and the Sunfire Theater Grand II. Both are trade-in's I've stumbled upon and wihtin $5 of each other. Any thoughts on which one to go with???Thanks for any advice.

It would probably boil down to features and capabilities. Can you set surround speakers to distances that are both closer and farther than the main speakers? Which one does bass management better? Turn the LFE channel on and off while listening to music, but do not have an LFE subwoofer connected - you will lose 3 dB on the bottom end of the main speakers when LFE is on, but processor may degrade the sound more than the other with LFE on... all depends on how they implemented their bass management. If one has rear center channel and one doesn't, I'd go for the one that has rear center channel.
If one has DTS and the other doesn't, I'd go for the one with DTS.
Other things of use... 2 LFE outputs, 6 channel inputs
