I just bought a Sony digital projection 53" TV and a
Pioneer 434 DVD player. The 434 does progressive
scan and I used it in that mode for a couple of weeks.
I had others complain about the picture being fuzzy (very subtle),
especially on older DVD movies. I was stumped ????
So I turn off progressive scan as a joke and used interlaced mode.
Guess what happened ? Clean and crisp images, night and day,
progressive scan sucked bad. Must be that Pioneer DVD player?
...LOL....Make sure you TRY out your equipment FIRST at the store before you
buy into all the HYPE !!!! BEWARE !!!!

I have seen that too. Remember, different outputs can be done to different degree of perfection on the same player. It is also possible to sharpen up the image on the interlaced, so it wood look "better". There will always be variations between different samples of the same model - the response of two video channels will never be the same. The main advantage of the progressive (no doubt here - it IS much better) is in the smoothness of the picture and relative freedom of motion artifacts. If you value these things then the answer is a ntch below trivial.
better homework. The Pioneer 434 is a terrible progressive scan player, probably the worst on the market.
Thanks, I now have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, shame on my ignorance.
