i'm wondering how accurate THX is if it simply decoorelates the rear surrounds? How does it determine which information to send to each left and right channel if the original information (recording) doesn't specify? Also, how is it for music?
Follow Ups:
As the other person said. THX is a standard & post processing not a format. There are those who disagree with the THX post processing. Mainly Widescreen Review. The feeling from one of the reviewers is that THX is flawed because they use the dubbing stage as it's source.
And they don't like the secret society aspect to there standards. Most people agree that THX is not good for music. But if you want to make you hometheater sound like the metroplex(THX) then the THX will help you achieve this. But if you want Hi-Fi music, it won't do.
If you want home theater only, THX is fine. But if you want to play music too. I would advise against it. The re-equalization is very popular. Some say that it is the only good thing about THX. Make up your own mind and decide for your self what you like and want.
There seems to be some confusion about THX and what it is and does.As others have pointed out on these pages, THX is a standard for which THX provides certification. It is not a method for decoding anything by itself.
The link below is from the THX site, it's worth your while to have a look at the whole site to see what the engineers at Lucasfilm have been up to.
