Don't buy a T760. It's been superseded by the T751 and T761. I'm not sure of the details but I think the newer range corrects some of the menu problems in the T760. The 751 has the same power rating as the 760. The 761 is 80W all around and has more inputs. In some countries the 761 also comes with a learning remote. You can see all three at the link below.I chose the T751 because it has sufficient flexibility for my system and in Canada the T761 doesn"t come with a universal remote. I didn't compare the NAD to anything in its price range. I bought it because I've owned NAD products in one system or another since 1979. NAD is about music, not numbers and is always good value. And the EARS system is actually useable for some music, as opposed to distorted DSP settings like Hall and Toilet. I tried a cheaper 100W Teac, thinking that sound quality wouldn't matter much for HT, but I was wrong. It sounded horrible, no punch at all. The NAD has amazing musicality for the money. I compared it to my stereo separates to judge it. Not as good certainly, but damn good just the same.
I've never heard the AVR-100, but Arcam is a fine company. The AVR-100 is double the price of the T751 and 1.5X the price of the T761 in Canada. NAD is commonly sold at a pretty good discount.
Hope this helps.

I am an audiophile helping a friend of mine get an AV/HT system. So far I have heard the Arcam and it is good, but pricey. My hit is we are going to have only about US$750 to spend. which will just get us the NAD 751. Is there anything else in the US. good values, with features which will allow the amps to be upgraded (to tubes) later. PS audio? others? Thanks to all for any help with this.

i second what he said. i just bought the t751, which is the newer imroved version of the t760 and it is wonderful. music is just fantastic. dont pay attention to the lower power rating, its just as powerful as anyhting else and sounds better than anything at this price point (around 750 us.) if music is important to you, you just cant go wrong with this receiver.

There's a review of the T761 at AR, about 2/3's of the way down, submitted by: David , from Wallingford, CT. USAHe's an NAD dealer and in his post he discusses the differences between the T761 and the T760.
I've never heard talk of any sonic differences between the T-751 and T-760, but I've never listened to a 760. AFAIK, they're equivalent except for two things. One is the menu changes.
The other is far more significant if you have a turntable or high quality CD player. The newer NAD's allow true analog bypass in stereo mode. AFAIK, very few receivers do at this price point. Most use a digital volume control, so they route all signals thru the ADC.
The Arcam also offers this feature.

i am not sure of all of the problems with the older model but i do know of one. apparently you could not use the sub in 2 channel playback on the old model unless you were using the analog input, on my unit the sub works on all sources. this is obviously good if you are using bookshelfs and need more "oomph"
