I have the Proceed AVP and the PMDT and HPA-3. I use all the balance inputs. PMDT AES/EBU to the AVP, BNC Component out to Marantz PD-4280 and balance interconnects to the HPA-3. I use the S-video for the VCR and DSS to the AVP to the PD-4280. The manuals tell it to you straight. There's nothing wrong with the S-video, it's just not as good as the component. Stay away from the toslink if you can and if you can keep it balanced from source to amp you'll get great sound.
Follow Ups:
(Not sure what a Marantz PD-4280 is).
Or TV in my case. My 3 choices are S-video, RCA or coax (guess coax really isn't an option). Sounds like S-video would be the way to go here.Thanx!

Given those choices, S video is definitaly the way to go over standard video (RCA) & coax.
