Take a close look at the DVD to see if there are any smudges or scratches. Depending on the DVD, these can make them unreadable.Michael
Follow Ups:
Yep. And some just don't work with some players. If it's an older player, start looking for a new one. I have a Sony 7000 and have about 2% that don't play (about 4 discs). Further my Matrix disc skips and locks on layer 2 (the deja vue/wet wall scene) whereas in my buddy's Sony 7700 it plays fine.-- Greg
about 1 out of 5 (by actual count) DVD rentals from Netflix wouldn't play or froze or pixelated so awefully that I finally canceled my subscription with them. I have a Dennon DV 5000...and cleaned the discs that wouldn't play with Auric Illuminator (helped twice--but not completely).I hope you're wrong about the machinery...that Dennon's top player isn't the problem...)never had a problem with store-bought DVDs(
so I bought JVC's last best effort consumer VCR, and went back to rentals from the grocery store...
...I've never had a VHS failure...never rented a VHS tape that failed to play. Is there anything worse than setting up for a weekend film fest and having THREE Netflix DVDs that would not play? AT ALL. Matrix was one of them...and a break-up and freeze during your first viewing of that flic really crushes the buzz.
Anyway...now I download from the Dish Network. Literally...Far Out.
