I am planning on getting a 36" direct view this fall. I have looked at the Sony Wega, but too much money. Which of the other brands/models would anyone suggest? Many Thanks in advance!
I own a Toshiba CX35F70 (same as that years top of the line cinima series but without all the built in sound stuff like surround), and if I could do it again I would spend the extra for a Sony. Nothing has a picture like a Trinitron! Period.
Definitely the Toshiba Cinema Series. I've got last year's CN36G97 (their best) and really can't complain. You'll get the typical minimally jagged oblique lines, especially during sporting events, but you really won't notice unless you look for it. Even when you do you won't care because of the incredible color saturation and depth. Detail resolution is amazing. Highly recommended. Let me know if you would like any additional info on these sets.
Take a look at the Toshiba Cinema Series TVs. Picture is as good as Wega for a lot less. Be careful, the Sonys are always on display with a DVD playing, the other TVs are sharing a cable line, needless to say, the Sonys always look better at the store.
I want to avoid Sony for several reasons (1) overpriced for what they are (2) not reliable [see recent Consumer Reports] (3) I figure I can do better.
