I have tried to eliminate a popping/cracking noise that goes off every 5 minutes or so, when watching EVERYTHING! (TV, VCR, DVD, Laser Disk) through my NEW amp, the Sony STR-V555ES.I even returned the unit and replaced it. Same thing. Could it be my connects, cables, overheating? Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

Is it possible you have a cable modem/lan cable close by? If so it sounds like the discovery cycle being every 5 minutes or so.Turn off the modem/computer and see what happens.

You sure that its not mains spikes? Have you got anything else plugged into the same power outlet that switches on and off? Air-conditioning, power-rad.If the units been back and its not faulty, that would be my next question.

Yes... some other items. But I do have a very, very expensive Monster surge protecter. Won't that protect it?
Only if its a surge. It could be transmitted. If that were the case it is being picked up inside the amp.I wasn't dismissing the possibility that the amp was still faulty, just giving other alternatives.

Please help! No one has helped me yet... Is it because my question is so stupid/easy or is it because noone knows the answer?Do you know what is wrong with my system?
Please help.
Don't be embarrased, your question is not stupid. But you need to find what cause this pops. Since you replaced receiver already we shall assume it was not broken.Disconnect all inputs from receiver. All cables, but power cord and main speakers. Then select any input (CD) and turn volume to normal level. Does it happen again? If it does it's comming from power supply line. If this is right you got yourself a big problem here. If it does not happen, then start plugging in components one by one and after each that you plug in, listen for problems. When you get to one that makes pops, you have isolated culprit(s).
Tell us what you have found, and we may be able to suggest something.
