Ive been on the search for a new receiver in the $400 range (would consider used), but there are so many out there. Anything you guys would strongly recomend a look at. Need 5.1, DTS, and svideo switching.
Follow Ups:
I have a new Denon AVR-1801, that I paid $359 for, shipped, from an authorized dealer. (Important for Denon stuff)I am very pleased with it- my previous receiver was an upper end Nakamichi SR-3A, and to my surprise, I haven't been dissapointed with the new Denon on music, and in home theater it's great!
For a really big room, you will probably need one of the more powerful Denons, but this one works perfectly for me, and you can't beat the price. . .

The NAD T751 allows true analog bypass. It's a bit more than $400, but I'm not aware of anything cheaper that allows you to bypass the ADC. It also sounds amazing for an all-in-one box. I recommend you wait till you can buy one.A cheaper receiver will massacre your TT's sound. Unless you have a very good DAC, CD may sound better connected digitally to the NAD. Don't worry about the power rating. Those sixty watts per channel will make most 100W receivers sound pretty wimpy.

Look at the outlaw 1050 $599 for 6.1

You might look at used Denon gear. The Denon AVR-3300 is a nice piece. You might also want to check out www.audioreview.com for what people who own specific pieces think.
etown.com raved about the Kenwood 309 last year and it's 5.1 and < $400
