I remember your post, I told you to change your SCART. You said you have this problem only over the SCART, right???If this is correct, you need to find out what is broken, a VCR or TV. Try on another TV, or bring another VCR.
Tell us what happened, but do not touch the head and tape path alignment. That's not the problem.

Sorry, should have thanked you for the suggestion rather than started a new thread.I have changed the scart lead on a number of occasions to no avail. The dealer felt that the problem might have been a problem with the TV scart socket. This would appear not to be the case given the problem was exhibited on playback of a standard VHS recording I made on a friends machine.
