I am a newbie and am hoping for some help. Just got a basic DVD player (Panasonic DVD-120U) and a digital HDTV ready Sony 53" rear projection TV. Which would give me better picture quality and resolution, the 3 component video connection, OR the one S-video connection? Or is there a negligible difference? This stuff can get so confusing! Thanks.
Follow Ups:
the component video improvement is limited to your enhanced dvd collection, whereas a ISF certified technician with color comparator's overhaul improves viewing across the board. and on my monitor it's a hassle to switch unless you spend two days programming a univesal remote equipped with macro functions :-) no, i have not done it yet for fear of the futzing involved
Heres are some things for newbie to think about. An ISF tech is well worth the spending money. They have unique tools such as color temperature guages that can ccurately configure your televsiion for the exact color that it was meant to produce. Not the high saturation and blaringly bright factory settings of that beautiful sony.An s-video cable only seperates the color signal into two channels. The Component video cables have seperated this into three seperate channels leaving less feedback and bleed within the colors. It is easily viewable with a television taht has the capability of your Sony. Not all differences will be in just the picture but also the scrolling rate and other hard to indentify properties.
There is no other way to go than the component video hookup, just make sure you spend the quality money on the quality cable as your weakest link will denote how good your system is!!!
will I be able to actually SEE a difference with component connections as opposed to S-video? Some have told me that there will be NO visual difference. Is this true? Also, what is involved for an ISF tech to 'properly' set up the TV? What do they actually do, and where could I find one?
Thanks again! I am a newbie, but am learning a lot here.

You can find information about the ISF at their website,
listed as a link below.Regards,
you should see a difference. Better still is progressive component (if you have progressive component inputs and a DVD player that outputs a progressive signal).
Yes component is better. I would also look at getting the TV set up by an ISF certified tech. It will cost a couple of hundred, but well worth it.

The component 3some is a better connection than a S-vhs cable. Less dot crawl and better color separation and control
