I'd suggest that you try to find a retailer that will either let you borrow a cable for a day or take it back if you don't like it. Then you can try it yourself without any permanent investment.
The only problem with your recommendation is that he needs to do a controlled test with levels matched, as the two signals will surely be at different levels. He will also be biased in the sighted test.
