I have heard that there are some "zones" in DVDs. I have no idea what they are. I wanted to ask for some Russian movies on DVDs, but not sure if this Sony DVD player will show them.Any info is greatly appreciated.

It depends where you bought the player. If in North America, it will not but the best thing to do is take your disk to the store and try.DVDs are made for specific markets (zones), North America, Asia, Latine America etc. If you look on the back of disk, it should say 1, 2, 3 or ALL. All the DVD players made after Jan 1 2000 are preset for market where they are sold, i.e. player sold in Europe will not read American disks.
Interesting part is that some players made before 2000 can play disks from any zone.
I've heard that if you add a little Russian distilled vodka, you can play just about anything !
sorry, couldn't resist, all in fun.... :> )
