A friend of mine is selling a 5 year old LD player for $140 CAD, Is it worth buying especially when the LD format is dying nowaday? Since I already have a DVD player, my decision is to buy or not to buy only. Please give me some advise. Thanks.Raymond.
It should depend on whether you have laserdiscs already or intend to purchase them at all in the future. If you already own or plan to buy LD's, particularly imports which may not find their way onto region 1 DVD's anytime soon, then by all means take advantage of the offer. It might also serve as a backup CD player in a pinch.AuPh
You already have a DVD player and probably some DVDs.
If you are going to get the LD player, they will stop making new ones in the not so distant future. Then what. Just for the old movies? You can always get them on tape, unless you are a movie buff.
Every day there are older movies out on DVD. Very soonk, there will be more titles on DVD than LD. The price does sound tempting and you probably can get some good deals on used LDs as well. I guess you will have to decide as it is a preference decision. I recently sold all of mine.
I realise answers like that will send your head spinning, but truthfully can't be helped.1) There will be some movies that have been long out-of-print & won't be re-released in any format, reguardless. Unless, of course, technology makes it viable for a very small business to do so.
2) There is a minority of people (of which I'm one) that prefer LD picture quality over DVD.
3) You get a LDP w/ Y/C DNR options & AC-3 which will ensure the very best picture & sound available.
If any/all the above strikes you where you live ... by all means buy it, but the vary fact you have to ask ... probably means "NO".
