I bought this player at Walmart for $139.00. It playes Mp3, DVD, CD
VCD and has Kareoke capabilites as well. I am not sure why anyone
would pay $600-$700 for a DVD player as this machine does it all
and I have not had one problem with it so far.
It throws a brilliant picture and great sound as it has PCM output
for my Prologic Stereo.
It also connects through my VCR as my TV does not have the RCA jacks.
This is a great buy for anyone looking for great features and wants
to get into DVD's.
(And no I am not from the Walmart Marketing Dept...hehehe!!)

Wal-Mart special! It is a very good player for the money, and I too was amazed at the pricetag. I get a great picture thru the S-vid jack. Now all the people who have been holding back for when DVD players become affordable and cheap have no excuse any more.

I'm not a fan of spending a lot of money on DVD players either, but if you're connecting the player through your VCR, it's not surprising why you don't know why others spend more. With that hookup, you are viewing the worst possible picture from DVD.

  My picture is absolutley crystal clear with vibrant color. I run
  it through my VCR to my 25 inch color TV.
  I have connected it to my 20 inch TV that does have RCA jacks and the picture is just as clear.
  If my picture is awful going through my VCR then I must be crazy
  because it is excellent! excellent! excellent!!
  The Macrovision does not effect my VCR at all.
  I can only tell you that this DVD player is the best!!

    seem excellent to you, but the way you have it connected still delivers the worst possible picture available from DVD. That is fact, not conjecture.

      Not to rabble rouse, I'm just looking for an answer than will help
      me get the best picture...even though the one I see now looks
      500 times better than VHS.

        You've never really seen what your player can do. The composite connection (RCA) is only one step above running it through the VCR. Given your description of the equipment, you're probably getting about 300-350 of the 500 lines or so of resolution that you could be getting (60-70%). Moreover, your color would improve and you'd have fewer picture artifacts with an s-video or component connection.
        If you're satisfied though, the above is relatively meaningless.
