with DPLII machines just coming out in th April/May, i would wait a bit. I have my eye on the new Onkyo 696, which is DPLII compatible, has component video switching, 5.1 preouts and inputs, and is going to retail list for 799 i believe. probably can pick up from JandR for 650 in a few weeks. Also, the AVR-100 is great at music, but for movies it is really sub-par. Every published review has said so (see new HT for latest). Also, the bass management is not up to par with others, and it is quite expensive considering an Onkyo 787 and Denon 3801 cost 400 less, but have much more standard. I think the reason for this, is that Arcam has never ventured into HT, and left out some really important things because of their lack of experience.
Just my 2 cents...

> > Arcam has never ventured into HTI'm sorry, but the D.A.V.E. system has won many accolades from the "published" reviewers, as you would say. Also, it competes with much more expensive gear on HT. The AVR is just a baby D.A.V.E. that is $2,000 less.
I could argue the fact that the Arcam is not as good on HT, but it wouldn't do any good. All the "published reviewers" say that it is sub-par, but I'd put mine against ANYTHING in the price range on HT.
And the musicality speaks for itself. .

For a music lover, the Arcam is a great deal (though personally i would just get an MF integrated, and Onkyo 595...another story, but same price). But if you go to the original post, this guy's 45% movies and 35% radio (which Arcam got poor ratings on the tuner as i recall) doesn't make this a good fit for himthat is what i hate about forums, is that people so often ignore the poster, and just post what they bought and say it is great. speaking from someone who just got into ht/hifi a year ago, i remember how confusing reading these kind of posts was.
so Hantra, i ain't dissin your amp, but let's keep everything in perspective so we can provide true help. ok?
just my 2 cents...
That makes sense. Pardon me for misinterpreting.BTW, which MF integrated?

in the $700 range. i was thinking of the MF XA-2.btw, i do REALLY like the Arcam cd players....if i hadn't found the CAL CL-15 for 700 (used), would have bought the 72 new. the receiver won't work for me because i need a large-small-small setup...though would be great for me if it did, so i can get rid of this crappy sony es i got as part of a trade a while back.
