what would you suggest for a package surround system (speakers, dvd, reciever) to start off with? thanks.
I think the only way you have a chance of really getting a system you keep long term is to buy used equipment. I previously assembled a small scale system for my Dad. New it was over $1k, Used, you might be able to come in under $1k.Check out equipment at Circuit City or Best Buy to learn what components, brand names and model numbers are out there. Then start shopping at the auction sites like ebay or audiogon, etc... With strict self control, and lots of time, you may succeed.
Good Luck... Paul
A decent DVD (Toshiba SD-1600 or 1700) will run you about 175-200 smackers. A capable AV receiver (I went Yamaha) with DTS, another 350-400. Add a decent speaker package such as Energy Take 5 with sub, and you're closer to $1,500 than a thousand. But worth every penny in the long run . . .
What are your criteria for the package ?
the room is 15 x 18 and i want the best i can get for under 1000.00. thanks.
