I found a last Samsung Tantus 27" at my local store(Canada). $US700 but final sale. I heard some negative things about Samsung's service. I also know they discontinued this line which leads me to believe there is something new on the horizon.Has anyone had any problems with this product?
I am also considering Wega and Tau but they don't do progressive scan.
Is a prog scan picture MUCH better than traditional output? If not is it possible to turn it off?I will appreciate any feedback.

Kep, I own the 27" Tantus, and I think it is a great deal for the $$. I paid full price for it about 3 months ago, but I don't regret it at all. I think that the picture is just as sharp as the Sony, and it got even better once I tweaked it with the Video Essentials DVD. You will want to tweak the settings out of the box, but once you get it set, I think you'll find the picture to be very pleasing. I am not even worried about Samsung discontinuing the line as I feel I got a great deal on a great set.Shawn
Shawn:
Do you use/have progressive scan DVD? Have you tried comparing picture between two types of outputs?Kep
Yes, I use the Pioneer Elite DV-37 with Tributaries Component-Video cable for progressive-scan. I must say that I've been impressed with the results of DVD's like "The Natural" that make use of this feature. The image is scaled up, but doesn't fill the screen as the Tantus is not a Widescreen tv., but the image is crisp and more visually appealing than looking at a very narrow black box on a conventional set with no progressive-scanning. I'd say that even without the built-in progressive scanning, the Tantus is a bargain, I just wish maybe I'd waited until now to buy since the price has been cut. You'd be buying the Sony for the same amount, and with the Tantus, progressive-scan is a free feature, if you choose to look at it that way. I wish that maybe you could test out this feature for yourself before you buy, and see if you think it's worth it.Shawn
What is the new pricing structure? I neeeeds one of these!!!!!B
