I am buying my friend a DVD player for his birthday and my budget is only $200. Any suggestions for a good reliable player? I saw a Panasonic and a Phillips at Best Buy for $200 or so...thanks everyone

I'm a compulsive comparison shopper, and afer looking at all of the alternatives just bought a Toshiba 1700, and could not be happier. Two important features, I feel, are the excellent zoom, and the adjustable black level. Check some of the video web sites, and you'll find rave reviews of the Toshiba 1600 which was just superceded by the 1700.
entry level DVD player. They're sub-$200 players are full featured (minus all the THX certifications) and pretty reliable.
Model is SD-1200, current is SD-1700, I think. Less than 200 clams and a very good value for the $$$ . . .
