I need a good component video cable to connect a progressive scan Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD player to a Toshiba 40H80 16:9 40" RPTV. I'd like to keep it around $100 to $200 for a 2 meter set unless expanding my budget $100 or so will provide significantly better performance. What do you videophiles recommend? My local dealers carry Tributaries, Audioquest, Tara Labs, and Synergistic Research. Thanks.

Hi Justin, cables discussions will always invoke some non-friendly behavior. Never mind that. As everyone says here, trust your own ears and eyes. Components, both audio and video, will react to different cables due to lots of factors. I would even try some place like www.fatwyre.com and audition some cables if your dealer will not lend you two or three samples.
Tributaries makes a great cable. Then again, so do the others that you mentioned. Above all else, avoid the cables that shipped with your gear. For video, it is doubtful that these cables would be able to handle the video bandwidth. My S9000ES came with cables instead of the Avia or MIB DVD....I would've preferred the DVDs!

My experience is that there is not much difference between component video cables once you get above the $2 junk that is included with the DVD player. Any of those you list and others have suggested should be fine.

I bought Better Cables for $60, which look very similar to the ones in the link below and work great . . .
I just moved DVD player from under the tube to 40' away. I replaced my Tributaries with 40' of Canare v-5cfb terminated with Canare connectors. No difference at all in picture quality, which is pretty impressive i suppose.
Have you tried making them out of belden 1506a? It has given remarkable results in the cable asylum w/ canare RCA's. Superior to the other ones.

Liberty Interflex sold by One Call is about as good as you're going to find. There are cables whose construction looks more impressive, but their picture won't be any better...and it might be worse.

I've tried Monster component cables as well as some very expensive silver component cables(the name will go unmentioned) and on my Pananic Tau widescreen I cant see a bit of difference using a JVC progressive scan as a source. While I've always found rather dramatic differences in sound quality in audio applications I can't honestly say I have ever seen a difference in visual quality among reasonably made video cables...joe
I tried the cables that came with my dvd player (got me up and running); bought some cables based on no name coax (slightly better); I am now running some custom Canare cables (much better). I guess my next step will be to try some silver plated cables. Each change made the picture better. ...Paul
