Interesting. I recently viewed some of my DVDs on the Sony Plasma.
I was told it was their newest model (but I'm not sure of the model #). The Sony didn't really compare to the contrast, richness of color and three dimensional image of the Panasonic. The Sony dealer told me that Panasonic achieves their look simply by shifting the contrast spectrum to favor deeper darks, at the expense of whiter whites (and thus the Sony supposedely has a greater palette of shadings and nuance). That sure isn't what I saw. The Panasonic struck me as richer in every parameter; deeper blacks AND brighter, more vibrant light colors. I'll always go with what my eyes tell me over manufacturer-speak.Rich H.
Follow Ups:
I saw both side by side on the same material at JandR yesterday, and Panasonic is clearly the best tv...i don't care about the 1024 specs at all put out by Sony. The panasonic had blacker blacks, no gradients as pictures moved, and had better overall color. For 500 more, it is now at the top of my list! Can't imagine what it would be like with the Faroudja!
"Can't imagine what it would be like with the Faroudja!"Keep thinking the same thing myself. Oh no, am I entering another world o' financial pain hobby to compete with my high-end audio obsession?
Yikes.
