Alright Ive decided that I want to upgrade my old equipment and get a new receiver, TV, and speaker package. Here are my questions:1: I was looking at Onkyo originally since I am familiar with them but my dealer is trying to talk me into the 3801 Denon for $995. I think it is a little overkill for my uses. What do you all think of the new Onkly 696 coming out???
2: I was also wanting an HD capable rear projection TV. Was really concentrating on the 46807 Mits and my dealer offered a deal for $2200. My question is as follows: I have seen elsewhere that Mits will be dropping or has dropped their MSRP to match that of the 47" Panasonic that is coming out. What should I do?
3: Finally, the speakers I am looking at right now are B&W 601 for front and back, CC6 for center, ASW1000 for sub. What do you think? Got offer from dealer at $1700 (about 125 off retail). They also have Def techs promonitors but they seem to be missing in the lower mid base area.
Thanks in advance......

What are your ears & eyes telling you? Does the Mits look better than the Panasonic? Does the Denon sound better? TELLING you they are better is what the racers used to call bench racing (ie b.s.). In my mind a good source is first and foremost. Then worry about the electronics and speakers in that order. Speakers can only sound as good as the source and the electronics feeding them.
The pana is not out yet....I do agree with the principles you mentioned....
In that case, I would buy the TV that is the most reasonably priced given the features you want. In terms of the receiver, is the home theatre system all you have, or do you have a stereo as well?
Well, currently I have a fairly old system.....Consists of an older Onkyo pro-logic receiver with RCA Pre-outs only for the center and rear surrounds. I also have a Onkyo 6 disc carousel changer. A crappy RCA amplifier to run the center and surrounds. A newer but relatively cheap 27" Sharp TV. For speaker I currently have older Infinity reference towers in the front (they are the ones with the emit R tweeter but the surrounds have separated on both woofs). I have an inexpensive Polk center and some advent surrounds.I have come to the conclusion that I am going to replace the whole 9 yard and am budgeting around 5K.
5 norh 4.0 ceramic speakers - $850
1 Bag End Infrasub 18 subwoofer - $1250Outlaw 1050 receiver - $600
$2200 left for video based stuff, $300 for cables, racks, & power conditioning.
