Which of these two brands is the most reliable,i'm looking at two new ones the Panasonic DVD-RV31K and the Sony DVP-NS400D they both have about the same features so it comes down to a reliability issue.Any help or oppinions would be greatly appreciated.
Follow Ups:
Sony used to be one of the best made until they were bought or taken over by I believe Orion. You will notice that all of the TVs and VCRs that Wal-Mart sells are owned by the same company (Sony, Phillips, Orion, Symphonic, etc...) they are cheap made and have virtually the same components. If you buy the cheaper ones you will be lucky to get a years use out of them. I have worked on TVs and VCRs for a couple of years now, and if it comes from Wal-Mart I won't touch it. It will cost more to fix usually than you can buy a new one for. I have personally bought two TVs from Wal-Mart, never again. Neither lasted a year and unless you keep the box (hard to do for a 25") they won't take them back. BEWARE
I bought a Sony DVP-NS400D DVD player a few weeks ago, and so far no complaints at all. Can't imagine doing much better for $249. But the tv I got recently is a Panasonic (CT-27SX10B).
I've got 3 sony 850cx carousel dvd players and I have no complaints (except that the menu system is a bit awkward to use). I a sony projector and am quite pleased with it. I would say that the dvd players I've used are very pleasing in terms of picture.
Maybe it's just my luck (and stupidity for buying more than once) but I've thrown away 5 Sony players - 2 laser discs, 2 CD and 1 DVD.
Switched to Pioneer still have the same one.Panasonic rules as TVs, don't know much about their DVD players
My collection of Sony stuff has it's ups and downs. The worst was a laserdisc player that was a POS from day one. also an early cheap CD player was not to great either. BUT!!! I had an ES 5 disc that played for 9 years straight, every day all day... I am certain it ran at LEAST 24,000 hrs before some wires connecting the optical pickup inside started acting up.
