and yesterday I bought an Audio Authority Model 977R Optical Receiver for $69 and it came with a 12" Toslink cable. I supplied the coax with RCA's and we were off to the races. I watched a PPV with AC-3 and it worked just like downtown! This is cool!

They also make a 977T for Coax to Optical and these things all daisy chain their 9V power together with little patch cables, so just one wall wart.

I'm posting this information in case someone else in the future needs to know what their options are, info that took me a day to sort out.
