One has to keep in mind, that the souce must be s/vhs, or interfaced to s/vhs from a higher quality standard like component. Sources from, DBS are component, converted to s/vhs with outs provided, DVD & S/vhs video tape recordings played on an s/vhs machine. Mini DV outs, High8 outs. Off air broadcasts of local channels are composite and will not reveal a better picture. Digital cable will provide s/vhs outs of their converter boxes, but standard cable won't give better results. Any recording on s/vhs machines, with s/vhs tape will give better results than standard vhs. Keeping a system in s/vhs from reception, to recording, to viewing will the best it can be, next to full component.
