Hi,
A friend of mine left a subwoofer box from his car(what it was doing in the house i don't know) beside his tv for some reason and now his tvscreen is screwed up. Can someone point me to a technique on how to degauze a TV screen. Thanks

Follow Ups:
The best way is with a degauzing ring, borrow one from a local TV repair shop, or ask them to rent it to you, or just leave a deposit or something. Remove all video tapes, audio casettes, floppys, magnetic media etc. from the area of the TV/Monitor and turn off any VCR near the set. I leave the set on so I can see where I am degauzing. Turn the ring on about 4 feet from the set. Slowly bring it close to one of the corners. Slowly go around all the corners, following the outer edge of the picture. Pull the ring back (slowly) 4 feet and shut off. Repeat, concentrating on the screen,(slowly) waving back and forth, from the top to the bottom of the screen, when you reach the bottom, slowly pull back 4 feet and shut off. DO NOT SHUT OFF WHILE CLOSE TO THE SET.
Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info. I'll check out my local TV repair shop and see if I can rent/borrow one.

You will need a degaussing coil. You can either use a bulk tape eraser (these used to be sold at Radio Shack) or make yourself a coil. You will need to take a 20 AWG or so wire, and wind a coil in a shape of a donught about 12" in diameter and with enough tirns that it is perhaps 1 1/2" in crossection. That coil works exceedingly well on degaussing the mask. If you buy a 1000' spool of the cheapest 20AWG wire that will give you enough. The coil is tape-wound to look neat.
By "bulk tape eraser" do you mean the ones used for VHS tapes?
