On two occasions now a VHS video I've received from overseas has, I assume, been erased by X-ray surveillance machines. On playback, I can occasionally detect a few ghostly images of what I'd expect the tape to contain (a concert recording), so it appears that I haven't been sent blank tapes by an unscrupulous trader. However, for this to happen twice strikes me as incredibly bad luck! I've tried adjusting my video machine's tracking but the snowstorm persists. The guy who sent me the tapes insists they were fine when they left him but, despite my request, he failed to clearly mark the second package with a 'Video - Do not X-ray' instruction.
Am I right to think the videos have been erased by X-rays (or perhaps a strong magnetic field) or have I been duped?
Thanks for any advice.

Is it a PAL video?, if so you have to have it converted, or is it s/vhs?I know a guy that couldn't say no to a peddler in downtown NYC. The peddler claimed he had a bootleg video of a first run new movie, well he did, it was shot right in the theater, it looked and sounded terrible, being about 6 generations, the dude missed half the scenes cause he couldn't get the whole screen in the shot. Then he would pan about the screen like a home movie, it was too cool. We had a great laugh, and was well worth the 5 bucks he paid.
