I'm in the market for 5.1 surround speakers. Does anyone in here recomend Polk Audio?
Follow Ups:
I think Polk is ok for movies and a little worse than ok for music. There are better and there are a lot worse. You may want to compare them to the KEF Q series. I think they represent a good sound at a good price. I don't know which Polk's you were interested in but go to www.sounddistributors.com or other page that sells KEF and price match the Polk's with the KEF's then read some reviews - better yet go listen to them. The Q35.2, Q55.2 and Q15.2 get great reviews.
It was great for the first year & then I moved on/up.
I bought my RT-10's for about 2/3rds retail through Crutchfield, then the CS-250 center, then the RT-3's for rears and a PSW-150 sub. The sub and RT_3's are still on duty, but everything else has evolved.I’m still sitting on the center channel. (Hint to anyone interested)
As with any new equipment, try to demo them first. Crutchfield and Circuit City I believe, both have a 30day money back guarantee. Check on that first though, I'd hate to be responsible for your getting stuck.
At about 6 months I was watching "The Song Remains The Same", a wee bit too loud as usual, and blew the left tweeter then the right one. Crutchfield had new/replacement tweeters at my door in two days.
Hope this helps,
Fish
Polks are kind of like the Sony of speakers. People either love them or hate them.I have RT55i's for mains, a CS400i for my center and RT25i's for my surrounds. I like them but I don't know that carries much weight. I truly believe that they sound better than any of the other mass market mid-fi speakers. Your really do get a lot for your money.
However, if you system is bright or very detailed the Polks will bring it out. And a poorly recorded disc can be painfull at times.
I would point you at the RT book shelf speakers as they seem to get very good reviews.
