I have the same situation as you in my house and purchased a set of #2 (as you described) for my rear wall. While I admit it isn't perfect, the sound is fairly enveloping and pretty good. Ideally, if you could get a design that has *both* tweeters and mids pointing to the sides at an angle, that would be even better.

My "surrounds" are Sound Dynamics RTS-RS1.
