Anyone have experience with this setup? Am tired of increasing fees by Directv, don't have cable or DSL, and tired of connecting at 28k (even w/56k modem). Heard some buzz about Dish and their direct up and downlink to satellite, and wanted advice from inmates here. Thanks in advance. Tony

I've been using Starband for about four months with no problems. However if u listen to the users group you might think it dose'nt work for anybody on the planet. For myself, living in the sticks where dial up really sucks, starband has been wonderfull. There are a few problems which may be important to u.Due to poor "latency" inherent in the satalite uplink thing, two way video or audio communication won't work. Internet phone calls or gaming, I hear, won't perform well. Downloads or steaming video however have worked well for me. Up-load speeds are somewhat slow.. 50k?
There is a new reciever coming out, SB says the upgrade to current users is mandatory, but free.... must re-up for another year. What I have gathered form the user group is the new reciever seems to provide better performance and is quieter, no fan.. yea. No fix however for the latency. If you are considering buying, be sure to wait for the new model.
