I need some suggestions on a TV set, to begin with. I'll ask for advice on other components as my budget allows. The only real criterias for the set are:$700.00(MSRP) or less, of course :)
prefer 32" - smallish room and all
not all that *tweeky* - spend too much time tweeking with my 2-channel system as it is!As you can see, I'm NOT aiming for the stars with this set up, just want a nice one, and my music system will be completely separate. Well, I hope I've given y'all enough info...
TIA Mats

Mats:You really aren't going to get much of a TV for $700.00 in 32". I would go look at the Samsung Tantus 27". That's a sweet TV, and it is progressive scan. You may as well go with progressive scan if you're getting into it now.
Other than that, if you have to go 32", I may suggest looking at a JVC. Stay the hell away from RCA, or ProScan. I have made that mistake twice. Right after warranty runs out, you will be in the shop with that. .

Oops, I forgot to mention that I don't what television at all, so the system would be for DVD and VHS only, if that makes any difference.
If this is purely for movie watching I'd definitely see if you can squeeze a WEGA out of your budget, maybe last year's model on a discount will get you around $700. The reason I'd recommend a WEGA is that for DVD, Sony has what's called v-compression (or anamorphic squeeze mode) which gives you 33% more resolution on anamorphic (or enhanced for widescreen) discs. This really makes a difference when viewing dvds.If the WEGA is out of your budget, I'd go with a Toshiba. I've found toshiba tubes to be very nice color-wise and you get a lot of features for your $$$. The toshiba however does not do the squeeze mode unfortunately.
good luck.
