Hello,
Can anyone recommend a budget preamp that's 5.1 ready?Right now I'm using a Marantz AV600 preamp/5 Marantz MA500's/Panasonic RV80 dvd player. Unfortunately the AV600 doesn't have a 5.1 input so I can't use the Panny's decoders.
My options are to get an outboard decoder or get a different preamp.
Any recommendations??
Mike

Look for Rotel and Parasound products. The Parasound P/SP-1500 is '5.1 ready' as is the Rotel RTC-970 (I think that is the model but not sure). The Rotel will probably be cheaper. The Parasound uses the DB-25 connection (so does the Rotel, I believe, but not positive) so you'd have to obtain such a DB-25 to RCA cable also (not cheap).
This is what I have. It is 5.1 ready via button on front panel. The 6 rca to db25 was only $35 to have custom built at a place in redmond washington. I picked my Rotel up at $150 at a store demo sale. Nice piece. But I just switched my system to an all in one setup. So the rotel is going. If interested, I will send details.
I'm definately interested if your selling it.Let me know,
Mike
